Not all helmets are created equal. Look for these certifications.
DOT
The legal minimum in the US. Good, but basic.
ECE 22.06
The gold standard. Rigorous European testing for modern safety.
SNELL
Independent racing-focused certification for high-impact safety.
Pro Tip: For the best protection, aim for a helmet that is both DOT and ECE 22.06 certified.
Never Buy Used
Helmets are one-time-use safety devices. Even a small drop can create invisible micro-fractures that compromise the EPS foam liner.
- Hidden internal damage
- Expired materials (5-year rule)
- Hygiene concerns
How to Find the Perfect Fit
A helmet that doesn't fit correctly is a helmet that won't protect you correctly. It should be "snug like a firm handshake."
Measure the largest part of your head (above eyebrows)
Identify your head shape (Round, Oval, or Intermediate)
Check for 'Hot Spots' (pressure points on forehead)
The Roll Test: It shouldn't slide off when you pull up from the back
The Chipmunk Cheek Test: Your cheeks should be slightly pushed in

Fitment is key: Snug, even pressure around the entire head.
Full-Face
Highest protection level. Covers the entire head and jaw. Best for beginners.
Modular
The chin bar flips up. Convenient for glasses and stops, but slightly heavier.
Dual-Sport
Full-face with a sun peak and better airflow. Great for dirt and street.
