A Checklist Does Not Guarantee Safety
T-CLOCS helps you catch mechanical issues before you ride, but a clean checklist does not guarantee a safe ride. Motorcycle riding involves risk, including serious injury or death. Always wear proper gear, follow local laws, and complete hands-on training with a qualified instructor.
Pre-Ride Checklist FAQ
What does T-CLOCS stand for?
T-CLOCS stands for Tires & Wheels, Controls, Lights & Electrics, Oil & Fluids, Chassis & Chain, and Stands. It is the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's recommended pre-ride inspection checklist.
How long should a pre-ride check take?
A thorough T-CLOCS check typically takes 3 to 5 minutes. With practice, you can scan the major items in under a minute and reserve the detailed checks for weekly or monthly intervals.
Do I need to do this every single ride?
At minimum, do a quick visual scan before every ride. A full T-CLOCS inspection is recommended weekly, before long trips, or any time the bike has been sitting unused.
